How I Made My Gift Tags/Tree Decorations

About a month ago, I joined a group on Facebook called “Herefordshire and Worcestershire Pretty Midlands Members”, it’s a group especially for etsy sellers living in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

I started my etsy shop back in June, and spent the summer making one-off shrink plastic magnets and brooches, felting and framing butterflies, and I also got some pocket mirrors made by the lovely team at Awesome Merchandise.

I’m now back studying at art college and haven’t really had time to make new things (I also didn’t get around to posting anything on my Facebook page for about a month – oops…) but then I managed to organise my workload a bit better so when I was asked by the Pretty Midlands group to take part in a pop-up shop in the Vintage Emporium in Hereford in December I got really excited – people could see my products first-hand and not just on a computer screen – so I said yes.

Fast forward to the middle of November and I realised I didn’t actually have that much stock so I needed to get making! As it was a Christmas pop-up shop I thought I could make some cards and decorations, and eventually came up with these sweet little gift tags (which double as tree decorations!).

So I thought I’d give you a behind-the-scenes peek at how I made them!

Firstly, I cut down some watercolour paper into rectangles approx. 6.5 x 9cm.

Then I painted on some red shapes for his hat and belly..

..and brown bits for the rest of him.

I made sure I got my lino stamp how I wanted it…

..and then stamped it onto the dried painting using a black archival inkpad.

(Aww!)

I then punched holes into the top-left corners of them all.

..and rounded the corners with my fabulous new corner-rounding gadget I got off ebay (only £3!). I never realised how much I love rounded corners until I got this – possibly the best £3 I ever spent!

I then strung some with natural twine and others with red twine. I like how both look – I also tried ribbon but felt it took away from the rustic, handmade quality of the tag.

I will be selling these individually and in packs of four and the pop-up shop:

7th-20th December 2015
The Vintage Emporium,
Widemarsh Street,
Hereford

and at the HCA Christmas Fair:

9th December 2015
Hereford College of Arts
College Road Campus Canteen
Hereford

along with lots of other illustrated goodies so please come and say hello!
